Happy Independence Day!!

This July 4th celebrate Life, Liberty,
and the pursuit of Happiness and Healthiness!!

We all love having an excuse to get together for parties with family and friends but we should not forget why July 4th is so special to us Americans.  American's are fortunate for this day as it is the day we celebrate our Independence. I am thankful everyday for those that have risked and sacrificed their lives to keep my family and friends safe.  Please remember our military every day and especially today say a special prayer for the United States Military and their families.

It is also up to each and everyone of us to continue to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the ones we care for and love.  This includes providing healthy options for our bodies to fuel itself properly.  We often take for granite the lives we get to lead.  Imagine how much more rewarding life could be if your health was in check.  Here are a fewideas to help you get started on your 4th of July Celebration:

Fresh fruit and cheese Flag

Red, White, and Blue Fruit Kabobs

Watermelon Stars

Grilled Chicken Kabobs

Turkey Burgers, Sweet Potato Fries, Grilled Corn, and Spinach Salad

Frozen Fruit Bars

Hard boiled eggs (minus yolk) with fresh tomatoes

TurboFire Chili

Homemade Hummus

No Bake Cookies

 Rainbow Fruit Tray

Edamame, Tomato, Basil, and Feta Salad

Some other Suggestions:
- Watch the condiments you use - try to stay away from ketchup, BBQ sauce, and mayo. Choose healthier options like avocado spread, mustard, EVOO, or salsa.
-Chicken and Fish are some of the best foods to grill and are loaded with protein (and of course don't forget my favorite Turkey Burgers!!)
- If you are having burgers try and do it without the BUN!! I  know, I know what is a burger without the bun but believe me it can still be very tasty.  If you have to have the bun then go with a whole wheat variety that does not contain High Fructose Corn syrup as one of the ingredients and make sure it is Whole wheat and not just wheat.
- Grilling veggies is fun and another healthy option.  Choose whatever is in season.  Hit your local farmers market, grocery store, or produce stand and select a wide array of color - make it fun!! Add a little EVOO, garlic powder, black pepper, and sea salt and toss your veggies and then place in a tin foil wrap on the grill.
-Stay away from most macaroni and potato salads as well as cole slaw. Most are heavy on the may.  Try a Clean Pasta Salad as a healthier option.
- Forget the soda and other sugar loaded drinks.  The best drink for your body is WATER!! Yep, good ole water.  Drink half your body weight as a minimum.  If it is hot where you are make sure to stay hydrated. If you feel thirsty then you have already gone too far - drink up!!
